Wind Power

Wind power is an interesting
alternative power solution because it relies on your location having
access to a constant wind. Coastal and exposed areas offer the best
positions for this type of solution. Contrary to popular belief, you do
not need a strong wind, just a constant one.
Again, advances in technology have
made the wind turbines of today much more efficient. A wind powered
solution has one significant difference over the solar power solution -
moving parts, and moving parts require maintenance. Wind turbines also
spin and make noise. Now it's not a huge amount of noise, more like a hum,
however you'd want to keep the tower and the propeller system away from
your main living quarters.
And as I mentioned earlier, the
turbine (the moving parts) will eventually require servicing due to wear
and tear, if you are not comfortable climbing up a tower you might want to
rethink this choice. Similarly to solar power, the created electricity is
stored in banks of batteries and this solution can also be tied back into
the grid.
Although solar power panels can be
'hidden' on a roof top, this is not the case with wind power. Although not
as discreet, for some people wind power is a graceful choice. There is
something very soothing about watching your own personal 'wind-mill'
turning resolutely in the wind. Check out the
